PGPN is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing to coordinate delivery of services under the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care Initiative through the Access to Allied Psychological Services Project (ATAPS).
Perinatal refers to the time during pregnancy and the first year after the birth of the child. Conditions such as anxiety and depression are fairly common in the perinatal period.
Approximately 1 in 11 women experience depression during pregnancy and 1 in 6 women experience depression during the baby's first
year.
ATAPS - Perinatal is available under the following criteria
| • | All GPs have access to the Program, |
| • | Available to women irrespective of age or income, |
| • | All services are offered at no cost to the patient, |
| • | GPs must complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan and an ATAPS Referral Form and fax to the PGPN Mental Health Program on 9708 8157. These forms are located on our resources page in both a PDF and RTF Formats. |
| • | PGPN will contact an appropriate provider specializing in Perinatal Depression; the provider will contact the patient, |
| • | Services are provided by |
ATAPS Referral Update- Peninsula GP Network will require ATAPS referrals to include a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a ATAPS Referral Form. The referral form will allow us to maintain more accurate records for reporting and ensure referrals are handled promptly. Referral for psychological services rebated under Medicare is available upon completion of GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.
